Big Five Wildlife Safari in Rwanda
Akagera National Park sits in eastern Rwanda, about 110km from Kigali, covering over 1,122 square kilometers of savanna, rolling hills and wetlands. It's the only place in Rwanda to see the full Big Five β lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino β thanks to one of Africa's genuine conservation success stories: rhinos were reintroduced in 2017 starting from zero, and the park is now home to 183 black and white rhinos.
Private 4x4 vehicle with driver-guide, round-trip from Kigali, Akagera National Park entrance fee, a full game drive, the Lake Ihema boat safari, lunch, and bottled water. One price, no hidden extras.
Early start β around 5:30am pickup from Kigali β for the roughly 2.5-hour drive to the park. The game drive itself typically runs 2-6 hours depending on wildlife activity, followed by the Lake Ihema boat safari for hippos, crocodiles and water birds. Return to Kigali in the evening.
The dry season (June-September) gives the best game viewing β thinner vegetation makes wildlife easier to spot. The wet season (October-May) is better for birdwatching, with over 525 species recorded in the park.
