What Happens on Your Gorilla Trekking Day Trip

5:30am — Our driver picks you up from your Kigali hotel in a private 4x4 Land Cruiser and we head north toward the Virunga mountains.

8:00am — Arrive at Kinigi, headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. All gorilla trekkers receive a briefing from RDB rangers. Your group (max 8 people) is assigned to a specific habituated gorilla family.

9:00am–1:00pm — The gorilla trek begins. Trek duration varies from 45 minutes to 5 hours depending on where the gorilla family has moved that morning. RDB trackers locate gorillas at first light.

1 hour with mountain gorillas — Once you reach the gorilla family, you spend exactly 1 hour watching silverbacks, mothers, and gorilla babies in their natural Virunga habitat. Cameras allowed, no flash. This is the experience people travel across the world for.

Return to Kigali — After the gorilla hour and trek back, we drive you to Kigali arriving 5:00–7:00pm depending on trek length.
