The Maasai Mara, Amboseli's elephants beneath Kilimanjaro, and the birthplace of the modern safari. Kenya's parks, timing, and how to combine it with Rwanda.
Kenya is where the modern safari industry began, and it still delivers some of Africa's most reliable wildlife viewing — the Maasai Mara's year-round predator density, Amboseli's elephant herds with Kilimanjaro as a backdrop, and well-developed infrastructure that makes multi-park trips genuinely easy to arrange.
Kenya's flagship reserve and the northern stage of the Great Migration — exceptional predator sightings essentially year-round.
Famous for its large elephant herds photographed against Mount Kilimanjaro's backdrop, just across the border in Tanzania.
A compact park known for flamingo-lined shores and a strong rhino population, both black and white.
Most itineraries start here — the Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick elephant orphanage, and Nairobi National Park (the only game park within a capital city) make even a layover worthwhile.
The July–October dry season is peak season for the Maasai Mara, coinciding with the Mara River migration crossings. January–February is also excellent and quieter. The long rains (March–May) are the low season — fewer visitors, lower rates, and the Mara's resident wildlife is still present year-round regardless of the migration.
Kenya's open savanna and Rwanda's mountain gorillas make a genuinely complementary pairing — two completely different safari experiences, connected by a short regional flight. We run a dedicated Rwanda & Kenya safari for groups of 3, and a broader Rwanda, Kenya & Tanzania circuit if you want to add Tanzania as well.
Kenya is part of the East Africa Tourist Visa alongside Rwanda and Uganda — one visa, one fee, single-entry travel across all three countries, which makes combining Kenya with a Rwanda gorilla trek straightforward on the paperwork side.
We arrange the full combination directly — gorillas in Rwanda, savanna in Kenya, one trip planned end to end.
